Electrenes: search and study of novel ultrathin materials by quantum-mechanical modelling

Purpose

The project searches for and studies monolayer, bilayer and heterolayer electrenes derived from two-dimensional electrides, and develops quantum-mechanical approaches for their reliable description.

Scientific tasks

The work addresses stability and electronic structure of ultrathin systems; the role of local and interstitial Coulomb interaction; and the response to strain, pressure, electron or hole doping and layer stacking.

Results reported for 2025

The RSF project record reports stable mono- and bilayer forms of XF (X = Ca, Sr, Ba), a predicted ferromagnetic state in monolayer BaF, and a comparison of DFT+U+V with DFT+DMFT for Li₈Au. The report distinguishes these results from the project’s planned work.
